Using EBSCOhost

What is EBSCOhost?

EBSCOhost is a powerful online reference system accessible via the Internet. It offers a variety of proprietary full text databases and popular databases from leading information providers. These databases contain full texts versions of publications including government documents, magazines, journals and newspapers.

The comprehensive databases range from general reference collections to specially designed, subject-specific databases for public, academic, medical, corporate and school libraries.

How to use EBSCOhost

• Click on the databases link on the left hand side menu.
• Click on the EBSCOhost icon on the right.
• Click on the link or icon for EBSCOhost at the top of the databases list.
• Enter the number underneath the barcode on the back of your library card into the Patron ID box and hit the login button.
• Here you will find a list of all the databases that EBSCOhost contains.
• Click on the boxes to the left of the descriptions to include these databases in your search.
• A checkmark should appear next to the databases you have selected.
• Click on the continue button once you have selected the databases you would like to search.
• Now you will see the search box where you can enter your search terms.

Basic Search Tips

Basic Search allows you to type in keywords and find articles with those exact terms.
Make sure you click on the Full Text box so that you may view the entire article.

Advanced Search Tips

The advanced search option will allow for more variables in your search and more precise results. You can limit your search by looking only at scholarly publications, searching for only recently published articles, looking at articles over a certain number of pages. For hints on how to refine your search click on the help link in the top right hand corner of the EBSCOhost website.

Printing and E-mailing articles on EBSCOhost

You can e-mail, print or save articles you find on EBSCOhost.
To e-mail, print or save an article you must click on title, the HTML Full Text or PDF Full Text link to view the article.
At the top of the page you will see the Print, E-mail Save and Export options.
