The East Orange Public Library uses the Wi-Fi standards. Each floor has wireless access points at the main library. When your network card senses a signal and established a connection, a message will appear on your screen informing you a wireless network is available.

Hardware Requirements

You will need a 802.11b wireless Ethernet device (wireless card) installed or a laptop with built in wifi capability.

Software Requirements

• A Web browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape.
• TCP client that is set to obtain an address automatically from a server.

How to obtain an Automatic Address

• On your desktop locate and right click on the "Network Neighborhood" icon and select Properties.
• Under the General Tab select Internet Protocol (tcp/ip), select Properties and select obtain an IP address automatically. Leave all other fields blank.
• Restart your laptop for changes to take place.

How to Print while using wireless

Printing while using our wireless network is not accessible being that it would require special print drivers installed on your laptop. However, you can email your files to yourself or save the information to a floppy disk or flash key and use our print system.

Can the Library staff assist me with configurations?

Unfortunately, our staff is not able to assist with configuring your laptop for wireless use. Please contact the manufacturer or vendor from which your laptop was purchased. (See Limitations and Disclaimers)

• The Library's wireless network is not secure. Information from your laptop can be captured by anyone else with a wireless device within 300 feet.
• The Library staff is not able to offer any technical assistance.
• The Library can not guarantee that you will be able to make a wireless connection.
• The Library will not be responsible for the safety of your laptop nor it's configuration, security, or data files in the result of using our wireless network.
