Help out in the Community Garden:

Our library’s Community Garden is part of New Jersey’s Youth Urban Farm Club network, a partnership with the Rutgers Cooperative Extension and the Essex County 4-H. Kids and teens in grades K-12 grow vegetables, herbs, and fruit while learning the fundamentals of urban gardening. Instructors from 4-H and from the NJ Master Gardeners come every week to teach participants about soil health, watering, garden ecology, and more! We’re always looking for teen volunteers to help keep our garden growing. The Essex County 4-H also offers a stipend to teens in grades 9-12 who volunteer at least fifteen hours over the course of the summer. And to top it all off, you get to take home some of what you grow. It’s a win-win situation!

Join our Teen Advisory Group:

The Teen Advisory Group (TAG) is a group of students in grades 8-12 who give suggestions and feedback about activities, books, services, and other library topics. The TAG meets once a month during the school year. Simply download the TAG application linked here, fill it out, and hand it to the staff member at the desk in the Teen Corner.
