Help out in the Community Garden:
The library’s Community Garden is part of the Essex County 4-H’s urban farming initiative. Kids and teens in grades K-12 grow vegetables and herbs while learning the basics of urban gardening. Instructors from 4-H and from the NJ Master Gardeners come every week to teach participants about soil health, watering, garden ecology, and more! We’re always looking for teens to help out with the heavy-duty tasks that the younger kids can’t manage on their own, or to stop by the library on a regular basis to water the garden. 4-H also offers a stipend to teens in grades 9-12 who volunteer at least fifteen hours over the course of the summer. And to top it all off, you get to take home some of what you grow! It’s a win-win situation!
Join our Teen Advisory Group:
The Teen Advisory Group (TAG) is a group of students in grades 8-12 who give suggestions and feedback about activities, books, services, and other library topics. The TAG meets once a month during the school year. Simply download the TAG application linked here, fill it out, and hand it to the staff member at the desk in the Teen Corner.
